Sarah Michelle Gellar on Kathie and Regis - 17th May 2000
Regis: Welcome back Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah: Thank you! (she smiles)
Kathie: Yea, we're all battling those blood suckers.
Regis: This little girl takin' on those vampires.
Kathie: She holds her own.
Regis: and beating them too-- and wearing Knicks shirt.
Sarah: *looks at her shirt* Got my Knicks shirt on today. We're
gonna win tonight.
Regis: Yea, you're a Knicks fan Sarah: I'm a big Knicks fan.
Regis: Yea, I heard you were at the game the other day at the
garden.
Sarah: I was, it was so amazing. 'Cause I grew up in New York,
and you know, I had those seats all the way up really high, where
your nose starts to bleed as you're walking to your seat--
Kathie: Headaches.
Sarah: Those, you know, the air sickness, and, uh, I got my first
floor seats at Madison Square Gardens, and it was so incredibly
unbelievable--
Kathie: Ooo, you made it, baby.
Regis: It's nice to be a vampire slayer.
Sarah: I know I was like-- that was it, that was the sign of like,
'I've made it'. I mean, I'm sitting on the floor seats at-- right
next to Star Jones, who is like showing me the ropes, got me a
towel--got my Knicks towel
Regis: Star Jones--
Sarah: I got my sweaty Knicks towel. I was like, 'this is great,
this is the life.'
Regis: How come when you and I go, we're back in her old seats? (Sarah
laugh) Kathie: It's all who you know, Reg.
Regis: I guess so-- but there you were with your boyfriend
Freddie Prinze Jr., huh? That's nice, and-- (Sarah half nods)
Kathie: She doesn't want to talk about it.
Regis: You don't wanna-
Sarah: Anyway, it was a great game! My Knicks won, (laughs) it was a great game. (audience laughs)
Regis: Oh, okay.
Kathie: That's right, sweetheart, you keep your private life privet. I always do.
Regis: --and look what it did for her. (Sarah laughs)
Kathie: Yea.
Regis: Yea. So, anyway, the Knicks won, and it was a very
exciting game.
Sarah: It was an incredible game. It was at the last five minutes,
I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I'm like, I'm going
to be 23 years old, and have a heats attack at Madison Square
Gardens. I couldn't breathe, I was like, 'Oh my God!'
Regis: It is something, isn't it? --and that crowd
Sarah: The excitement. There's nothing like Madison Square Garden.
I've been to games at the Staple Center, and it's a very sort of
sedate crowd, and you get home to New York, and they're chanting
and screaming-- and they did this great cheer, "Riley Sucks,
Riley Sucks" (laughs) I was like, this is great.
Kathie: I bet he loved it. Sarah: (laughs) Yea. I'm like, 'Can we
do it again, can we do it again?'
Regis: Ah, well, he's a great coach, and we were heartbroken when
he left here in New York, but--
Sarah: Bye bye.
Regis: --everybody survived.
Kathie: You know what happened? Micky gave him all the money he
should have given to me from Carnival. Gave it all to Pat Riley
to coach the heat.
Regis: Believe me, you got your share. Alright, so you're back
all week in New York, what else you been doing?
Sarah: Sneezing. My allergies have been hor-- I saw the paper
this morning-
Regis: Isn't it terrible?
Kathie: I thought it was effecting your voice, I wondered if you
had a cold.
Sarah: It is, I've been cracking. My voice-- I sound like a 13
year old boy going through puberty this morning. I'm like, I
thought it was just 'cause it's early, and I saw the cover of the
news paper this morning, and my allergies have been horrible
since I've been here.
Regis: Did you have them when you were a kid here in New York? I
don't remember having them when I was a kid.
Sarah: I don't remember having them when I was--
Kathie: The air is a lot dirtier than it was back in the 1800s.
Regis: Well, maybe that's true. So you eating all the good New
York food?
Sarah: I think I'm basically eating my way through New York City,
like my--
Kathie: Yea, it shows too. You really have to watch it.
Sarah: I know, thank you, great. Um, no, like my first day back,
the first thing I did was walk through Central Park to Pug
Brothers to get my popcorn, best cheddar cheese and caramel
popcorn.
Regis: Where's this, the Pug Brothers? Are they in the Park?
Sarah: No, it's on 72nd and Columbus--
Regis: Okay, sure.
Sarah: --right between Timothy's and Starbucks, right between the
two coffee places. And then from there, right to Zabar's to get
my sun-dried tomato tofu spread, to H & H to get my bagels.
Regis: Yea, but did you stop at Gray's Papia on 72nd and Broadway--
Sarah: No, because I had my Madison Square Garden hot dog. It was
all about my MSG hot dog and those great ranch french fries they
have there.
Kathie: Is there any MSG in an MSG hot dog?
Sarah: No but in the Chinese Food from Satchuwan Kitchen the
other night, there was plenty of salt.
Kathie: Yea, there ya go, baby.
Regis: Boy, you really made the rounds.
Sarah: --and pizza tonight. No, it's all about eating.
Regis: Yea, when are ya going home?
Kathie: ''Cause you can't eat when you're working.
Sarah: Regis is already trying to get rid of me, "and when
are you going home?" Regis: No, no, no! I know you're in for
the season uh--
Kathie: Launch. Regis: Launch, yea.
Sarah: Right, we did, we had our big day yesterday, the most
embarrassing day of my life.
Regis: When are you going to be on?
Kathie: Why the most embarrassing day of your life?
Sarah: (laughs) It was one of those things where you go to
rehearsal, you rehearse this, and you're all ready to like, you
know, do your big production for your show, and I'm sitting
backstage with the rest of the WB, and all the sudden I see David
Boreanaz screaming, "They called us, they called us!"
and I said, "No, they're just introducing our show" and
I see Leslie Bib from 'Popular' yell, "No, no, they really
called you." They had announced us way too early, and we're
sitting u
pstairs like having our coffee and bagel. We run down like an
entire like escalator--
Kathie: Yea, cause it's hard to get to the stage.
Sarah: --through the entire crowd of the press. We didn't even go
backstage. We had to run through the front, and like up the
stairs to the wrong side. I'm like, this is a great showing for
our show.
Regis: Oooh..
Kathie: It wasn't your fault.
Regis: Yes it was.
Sarah: (strange facial reaction) No it wasn't.
Regis: So, when are you on next year?
Sarah: When are we on? Still--we have our same time slot Tuesday
at eight.
Regis: Tuesday at eight, really? That's when I'm on.
Sarah: Tuesday at eight. (smiles and nods)
Regis: *points to himself* Try to slay this, Buffy!
Sarah: (laughs) First of all, you're on every night. And,
secondly, lets talk about Celebrity Millionaire. Lets talk about
how desperate I was to be on it. You didn't ask me!
Kathie: You could've had my seat, honey.
Sarah: You didn't even ask me!
Regis: I'm sorry. Next November, you're on.
Sarah: Okay.
Kathie: You only have a few slots left, you better start being
careful. You've promised it to everybody.
Sarah: And nothing personal, Gelman, but you're not going to be
my phone call. (audience laughs)
Kathie: What'd she say?
Sarah: I said Gelman's not going to be my phone call.
Regis: no, don't call Gelman on those things.
Sarah: Nothing Personal.
Kathie: So glad you learned from my mistakes.
Regis So, anyway, you've got the big season finale show coming up.
Sarah: Yes, next Tuesday.
Regis: Next Tuesday. Now what's the big cliffhanger?
Sarah: It's actually really interesting, because normally we end
our shows with the big end of the year battle against the bag guy,
and this year we did it last night. What we have next week is a
show about dreams. Everyone has these dreams, and they basically
foreshadow next season. It's sort of a little vanguard for our
show. It's actually really interesting, and a very different
season finale. Not a cliffhanger per say.
Kathie: Good, but you guys have been sort of on the forefront of
different kinds of things. That's good.
Sarah: It's been fun. It's been great to sort of, you know, just
push the envelope a little bit, and do things that are just a
little bit different.
Regis: Yes, yea.
Sarah: Listen to me. Oh my God.
Regis: I know, you're allergies are kicking in.
Kathie: You're like a sneeze waiting to happen.
Sarah: (laughs) I am.
Regis: How many vampires do you think you've killed by now? (audience
laughs)
Sarah: That's an interesting question, we should get a number.
Although, you know what? This year, I don't think we've even had
vampires on the show this year. I think we had like four this
year. We had demons and creatures-- we just killed them all.
Regis: Yea, good for you. Here's a scene from last night's show,
where Buffy is telling the head of the underground military that
he should listen to her.
SHOWS CLIP FROM "PRIMEVAL"
Kathie: Yea, big boy.
Sarah: Yea.
Regis: Buffy rules the world!
Sarah: (laughs) Just not Tuesday night.
Regis: You know I just noticed something. Come on over here, Jan.
Stand next to Buffy. Come here, just for a minute (Jan walks to
beside Sarah). Buffy, if you ever need a younger sister on the
show-- Now both of you look into this camera right here. Come on.
Take a closer look. Don't they look like sisters? Yea, they look
like sisters.
(the girls laugh)
Kathie: Jan just got married a couple weeks ago.
Regis: Sarah, it's great to have you back in New York.
Sarah: It's wonderful to see you, thank you.
Kathie: Have a good time while you're here.
Regis: Come on back and see us again, okay?
Sarah: I will, thank you. Kathie: On at 8 PM. Regis, Alright,
sweetie, thank you. (Sarah waves) -Legs
