Synopsis:
The Master eagerly awaits the coming of the annointed. Buffy is
getting all girlie about hunky bookworm Owen, to Xander chagrin.
In another part of town a van is attacked by vampires and six
people are killed, including sinister Andrew Borba. Buffy has a
date with Owen the next night, but is interupted by Angel who
came to warn her of the impending danger, and by Willow and
Xander who pretend they want a double date at the funeral home -
in fact Giles has headed there to check out the van victims and
is trapped by vamps. They leave Owen and head off, but he follows
them. While Giles and Buffy search for the annointed one, the
vamped up Borba attacks and Buffy chucks him into the furnace.
Owen loved the excitement but Buffy refuses another date knowing
that his getting involved with her would only get him killed. The
twist? The annointed one is actually a little kid.
Review:
It's primary purpose is to set up future episodes featuring the
diminutive annointed. The episode was lots of fun to watch but
other episodes have dealt more effectively with Buffy's inability
to have a normal life.
Points of interest:
When he was young Giles wanted to be a fighter pilot. Or a grocer.
The annointed one's real name is the particularily non-fearsome,
Colin.
Check out the fisrt few clips in the season two episode 'When She
was Bad' - see if you can spot the footage of Owen walking away
from Buffy after she declines his offer to go on another date.
Music featured in this episode:
