The second half of the the two-part pilot opens with Luke bending
down to bite Buffy but he jumps back as the cross that Angel gave
her hours earlier burns his hand. Buffy escapes and rescues
Willow and Xander, however, Jesse is lost in the confusion. The
Master uses him as bait and Buffy and Xander have a Lucky escape
in the sewer systems of Sunnydale. Buffy manages to prevent the
harvest (which is taking place at the Bronze) by killing the
Master's Vessal, Luke and his henchvamps. Jesse has been
vampirised and Xander stakes his former best friend by accident.
Review:
All the characters settle nicely into their roles - Angel's
appearance is sightly odd, however. He comes across as sarcastic,
and a little cowardly, and only really settles into the character
we know and love later in the season. The distinctive Buffy style
is stamped onto the screen in no uncertain terms. Whedon has
created a true phenomenon, and makes it look easy.
Points of interest:
When Giles draws the three pointed symbol on the white board, he
reveals himself to be left-handed. As all the coolest people are.
According to the Master he has been trapped in the old church for
60 years."I have waited. For three score years I have waited.
While you come and go I am stuck here, here in this house of.....
worship! "
